Client: Twofour for Apple TV+
Jump was commissioned by Twofour to create a set of graphics for their new Apple TV+ series The Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy. The deliverables included a set of pre-title illustrative animations and a set of maps covering each country visited.
The eight-episode series follows Eugene Levy as he visits some of the world’s most beautiful and intriguing destinations in Costa Rica, Finland, Italy, Japan, Maldives, Portugal, South Africa and the United States, exploring remarkable hotels and the places and cultures surrounding them.
Callum O’Reilly – Senior Animator at Jump:
“Our client created an edit for their pre-title intro for each show. It was full of beautiful vistas, fantastic architecture and of course Eugene Levy. Certain shots were then chosen for us to illustrate to give the piece some fun and vibrancy.
We created a style which focused on the fantastic variety of colour seen in all the wonderful places around the world. It’s very graphical but with lovely hand-finished shaded details. Once the illustrations were signed off by the team, we then had to reveal them with a variety of brushstrokes as though we were painting on top of the clip.
The challenging part was then mapping the illustration onto the moving footage. We needed to create a seamless transition and also continue the movement in the illustration once it is fully revealed. This involved a lot of tracking, frame by frame animation and a few extra little tricks.
The same treatment and illustration style was then used in the maps, which reveal where Eugene will be reluctantly travelling to next!
We’ve loved working on these graphics. Each one was completely different and came with a variety of different creative challenges.”
