Client: Football Marketing Asia and AFC
In 2021 Jump signed a 4 year deal to provide Football Marketing Asia (FMA) with the on-screen graphics, title sequences and draw graphics for all of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) competitions.
Jump has just created the graphics for the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ Final Draw. An additional commission for this project was to create the tournament emblem animation which was revealed within the live draw programme. A key moment was to visualise a colour change mid-way through the sequence from the pre to post-draw colour scheme.
Lee Jacobs – Senior Art Director at Jump:
“Our brief for the Emblem animation was to bring the story of the design to life and to show how it connects Qatari and Asian symbolism with football. As well as the Opener, Closer and Emblem Reveal, we also delivered a number of 3D files and bespoke animations for the events team to create a laser show which highlighted some of the key moments in the film.”
LJ – “Our concept is based on an iconic Qatari falcon which dramatically interacts with a lotus flower triggering the beginning of the emblem reveal.
A very fast turnaround meant that we had to storyboard the sequence very precisely and work collaboratively and efficiently with FMA. We shared WIPs often and responded to feedback on the fly.”
Mark Fairless – Senior Animator at Jump:
“We purchased a rigged model of a falcon which we stylised and adapted. The character animation was done in Maya, then baked models were exported to be lit and textured in C4D. The final compositing was done in After Effects.”
Aaron Randell – Designer at Jump:
“This is one of the AFC’s premier tournaments so it is getting a fresh new look and the Draw is where we start. Our deliverables for the draw included Full Frame Overview graphics for the Pots and Groups, an L-shape overlay for using while the draw is in progress, name straps and opening / closing bumpers.”
The AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ will start from January 12th, 2024 and it will take place across eight stadiums in Qatar.
