Clients: Atomized Studios for Samsung Electronics
Jump was commissioned by Atomized Studios to create animations for a Samsung Electronics Press Conference taking place at IFA Berlin 2023.
IFA is the world’s largest consumer electronics and home appliances trade show. It is held in Berlin every year with more than 2000 exhibitors presenting the latest developments in consumer electronics and home appliances.
Samsung Electronics held a press conference for the opening of their booth. They were showcasing their newly launched Micro LED screens to Europe and highlighting their latest devices, innovations, platforms and sustainability efforts under the theme ‘Connections That Matter’.
Ross Aitken – Senior Production Manager at Atomized Studios:
“This project for a major tech client had some unique technical and creative challenges to be displayed during a live press conference. The Jump team were diligent, creative and professional throughout and helped us navigate tight timelines and changes of direction with grace and aplomb. We loved working with the team and the process felt streamlined and collaborative.”
For their presentation they were utilising a whopping 787 inch screen – measuring 19.35m by 4.82m.
Jump’s role was to create bespoke designs and animations that flowed seamlessly in line with the presenters’ presentations, pulling out key facts from their scripts and highlighting important partnerships and new releases.
Becky Clacey – Designer at Jump:
“The script was split up into 75 sections and we provided at least one design for each. We delivered each 8K screen to be implemented through Christie Pandoras Box software for playout. Backgrounds and alpha animations were provided to create the seamless transitions between each section.
The graphics were made in After Effects. We delivered using the HAP codecs which perform decompression using a computer’s graphics hardware. This substantially reduces the CPU usage and provides better playout results.
The volume of work we created was huge. The deliverables were over 300GB of renders and the project referenced over 170GB of assets.”
Becky travelled out to Berlin to be onsite for any last minute tweaks and changes. This proved to be one of the hardest parts of the project as it coincided with UK airports being brought to standstill by an air traffic control meltdown. Thankfully she made it there safe – albeit a day later for rehearsals than intended.
BC – “Being onsite in Berlin was really interesting. It’s not often I get to sit side by side with the playout operator of our graphics and pick their brains about how we provided our designs and whether the workflow could be improved. Also being there during the event allowed me to see designs first-hand and how they were received by the room. It was a busy couple of days with a lot of disrupted travel, but being on site was definitely worthwhile.”
