Client: Twofour for Apple TV+
After confronting some of his long-held fears in season one, Emmy Award winner Eugene Levy steps out of his comfort zone once again. This time, he’s embarking on a must-do journey for any respectable globetrotter – a grand tour of Europe.
The seven-part second season of the acclaimed country-hopping travel series follows Levy as he makes his way from the very north of the continent to the very south. Along the way, he unearths stunning hidden local gems, discovers his family tree and attempts to broaden his taste buds while experiencing the region’s most unique destinations along the way. Join him as he goes on the trip of a lifetime he never knew he needed.
Jump was tasked with creating a set of befittingly stylish map graphics for Season 2. This time we were showcasing Eugene’s journey from country to country in Europe, although starting with his grand Atlantic journey from Canada to his first destination in Sweden.
Callum O’Reilly – Senior Designer at Jump:
“As an added artistic flourish, we paint over the clips before and after the maps, turning them into colourful illustrations. Firstly, we use software to cleverly track each clip’s camera move. We then draw elements from each scene – like trees or boats – and place them into the scene one by one to build up our illustration in layers. This way we can develop an overall image that matches the camera move, perspective shifts and movement and is also in-keeping with our style from season 1.
The map design was inspired by the etched illustrative style from passports. We used thin, repeated wavy lines to bring detail and life into the large amount of sea and ocean that feature. We also used similar lines to subtly describe the topography of the land. The colours were chosen to be warm and inviting.”
All episodes from the series are available to stream now on Apple TV+.
The Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy is a Twofour Production.
