Comic Relief – Red Nose Day 2025

This year is Comic Relief’s 40th anniversary and a few weeks ago, Red Nose Day raised a staggering £34 million. The live broadcast from Salford’s MediaCity included sketches from some of the BBC’s biggest shows including Strictly Come Dancing, Gladiators and Beyond Paradise.

Callum O’Reilly – Senior Designer at Jump:

“This year we were tasked with updating many of the graphics from 2024 with the new 40th birthday Red Nose Day texture – which is GLITTER! Our favourite kind.

We were supplied with several different colours of glitter which we added to the graphics whenever we could. This mainly consisted of glittery red noses and gold glitter accents to existing graphics.

We also created a brand new 40th Birthday logo which was used throughout the show. There were versions which animated as a loop, it was used as a wipe and also as a reveal at the start of the show.

Another fun animation was turning the BBC 1 globe ident from over 40 years ago into a glittery red nose. That tied in nicely with the 40th anniversary too.

There is always a pre-recorded show after the live show and this time it was called ’40 years of Funny’. We re-jigged our ‘A Whole Lotta Lenny’ graphics from last year and created cartoon characters of Asim Chaudhry and Emma Willis to slot in.”

Jump’s designers Sam Clarke and Tom Holmes were in attendance at the studio on the night and for a few rehearsal days before. Jump creates some graphics for the broadcast, including animations for the studio video screens – which occasionally need some last minute tweaks and changes.
