Having graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Auckland University and not quite being sure what to do next, Kate travelled from New Zealand to London.
Her first job in London was for post production house The Plaza Suite. This was in the early days of computer graphics and Kate was employed to run their new graphics department, which mainly consisted of a sophisticated caption generator.
She then moved to Geoff Axtell Associates who had recently purchased Quantel’s new graphics machine ‘Harry’. After two years years cutting her teeth in graphics Kate moved into the freelance world. She was principally working for Reuters on a daily live financial programme that was broadcast across Asia, as well as stints at GMTV and ITN, before taking a full time job at ITN’s independent design company IDF. It was here that Kate met the other Jump founders (including Richard Norley her husband to be). In 1996 Kate left ITN to co-found Jump as one of the Directors.
Initially working as a Designer at Jump, over the years, Kate has progressed her role to become Jump’s Creative Producer. She is involved in all creative aspects of the production of a job from putting together pitch documents, to ensuring the successful completion of large scale projects with multiple complex deliveries.
FAVOURITE JUMP TITLE SEQUENCE
So Graham Norton. Quirky, unexpected and very original; the sequence was made with a tiny budget. So much so, that we ended up in front of as well as behind the it!
SURPRISING FACT ABOUT YOURSELF
As a child in New Zealand I featured in a TV commercial for English muffins and became known as The English Muffin Girl. Then I came to the UK to discover that in England they’re actually called crumpets!
WHEN NOT AT JUMP YOU ARE MOST LIKELY TO BE FOUND
Kicking virtual butt in a Body Combat class or working on the never ending list of interior design project for our house.
FAVOURITE TV SHOW
Grand Designs…a girl can dream.
DREAM HOLIDAY
Somewhere with a beach hut leading out on to a powdery, white, sandy, beach with crystal clear, turquoise coloured, water and a really excellent kids club!
